Official | Amine Gouiri chooses to represent Algeria

Stade Rennais attacker Amine Gouiri (23) has decided to represent the Algerian national team over Les Bleus, several months before AFCON 2024. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Gouiri publicly confirmed his choice to play for the Fennec Foxes in the coming months, having represented France at U21 level.

It was reported in September that the Rennes striker had made his choice to play for Algeria, joining former Lyon teammate Houssem Aouar. Gouiri may be called up in November as Algeria face Somalia and Mozambique in their campaign to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi announced in Algerian media that Gouiri’s case was settled “from an administrative point of view.”

Gouiri played for France’s youth teams and was part of Sylvain Ripoll’s squad for the Under-21 European Championships last summer. He wasn’t involved in Thierry Henry’s first squad in September, as Les Bleuets faced Denmark and Slovenia in Euro U21 qualifiers.
