Sunderland set to sign Adil Aouchiche from Lorient

L’Équipe report this evening that Lorient midfielder Adil Aouchiche is closing in on a move to Sunderland, with the Championship side having found an agreement in principle with the Bretons.

The former French youth international, who joined from Saint-Étienne last summer after Les Verts were relegated, has only made 14 appearanes in all competitions for Lorient. He is not in manager Régis Le Bris’ plans, and has not been part of the matchday squads this season. He had previously been a fixture of the Saint-Étienne lineups for two seasons, registering ten assists in 77 games.

While Ouest-France indicated yesterday that there had been an approach from Spanish side Almería, Aouchiche now looks set to sign a long-term contract with the Black Cats. The exact transfer fee involved has not filtered through yet. The Championship side are also said to be chasing another Paris Saint-Germain youth graduate in Édouard Michut, who they had on loan last season – and who is ostensibly not in the champions’ plans for the season ahead.
