Monaco’s Caio Henrique suffers ACL injury

AS Monaco have announced that Caio Henrique (26) has suffered an ACL injury. L’Équipe report that the injury was suffered during Friday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of local rivals OGC Nice.

Henrique’s injury is a big blow to Monaco. The Brazilian, who was once again called up to the Brazil squad, tops Ligue 1’s assist charts (4), however, he won’t be able to add to his tally any time soon. A statement from the club on Tuesday read: “Caio Henrique has a sprain on the left knee with an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament being evaluated.”

The injury was suffered in the second half against Nice, and whilst the Brazilian was able to continue for around 30 minutes following the contact, the severity of the injury became clearer following further tests. It has not yet been decided whether Henrique will undergo surgery. Should he do so, it would be touch-and-go as to whether he would be able to feature again before the end of the season. If the injury doesn’t require surgery, Henrique could return early in the new year. Ismaïl Jakobs is Henrique’s natural replacement at LWB.
