Youssouf Fofana: “If you’re choosing between Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Monaco, naturally I stay at Monaco.”

Speaking to Canal Football Club, AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana (24) opened up on his decision to remain at the club amidst Premier League interest.

Nottingham Forest and Fulham were both reportedly interested in signing the France international this summer. The Principality club were even prepared to accept an offer from the former, however, Fofana wasn’t interested in the move, according to RMC Sport. Fulham, meanwhile, registered a late interest, according to Sports Zone.

Fofana has now said that when deciding his club future this summer, he had his international future in mind. “I want to go to a place where I can continue to be selected for France. If you’re choosing between Nottingham Forest, Fulham and AS Monaco, naturally, I’m staying at Monaco,” he told Canal Plus in an interview transcribed by La Diagonale

The former RC Strasbourg Alsace midfielder admitted in September that he had nonetheless been in two minds regarding a departure. “Sincerely, I was between staying and leaving. I’ve always said I have no problem with staying, especially at a club like Monaco, who are always competing at the top. I have personal expectations and objectives. Maybe a departure wasn’t the best thing for me. I am very, very happy to have stayed and to have this status in this team,” he said in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News
