Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has taken aim at Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, mocking the Spaniard’s results with the Ligue 1 champions.
In an interview, transcribed by Fabrizio Romano, De Laurentiis revealed that he had contact with the former Spain manager over the summer, as he looked to replace Luciano Spalletti, who won the Scudetto with Napoli, before immediately departing. “I called Luis Enrique in June,” said the Napoli president.
Ultimately, he hired Rudi Garcia, whose position at the club is already under pressure. Igor Tudor, Graham Potter, Marcelo Gallardo and Antonio Conte have all been touted as a replacement for the underfire French manager. However, De Laurentiis doesn’t regret not hiring Luis Enrique.
“Luckily, Luis Enrique wanted to join PSG – look at PSG’s results now,” said the Napoli president. Les Parisiens currently sit third in Ligue 1, two points behind leaders AS Monaco following a comprehensive victory against Stade Rennais over the weekend. However, prior to that result, PSG had drawn to Clermont Foot, before being comprehensively beaten by Newcastle United (4-1) in the Champions League.
