Nantes’ Pedro Chirivella announces end of his season due to injury

Nantes midfielder Pedro Chirivella has announced he would not feature again for Les Canaris this season. The former Liverpool man is suffering from a groin injury, and had played through the pain for several games. “I need some time to be 100% fit“, said Chirivella. “I never took the time to recover because I wanted to help the team, but I’m honest. I need a break to get back on top.

Chirivella’s absence is a massive blow for Nantes. Les Canaris are still embroiled in the fight to keep their Ligue 1 status. Most of all, the Antoine Kombouaré-led side will play the Coupe de France final on April 29th against Toulouse. Nantes are the current holders of the Cup. Kombouaré has revealed that his midfielder had been in pain for a while now. “His last game against Reims was one too many“, Kombouaré added. “We can only understand his decision. Now, he needs to rest and work to make the pain stop.

Chirivella is expected to follow a recovery program starting next week. The former Valencia youth product has played 34 games in all competitions for Nantes this season. The Loire-Atlantique side will travel to 15th-placed Auxerre on Sunday for a high-stakes game.
