Upon his retirement from professional football, Koscielny took up a coaching role within the backroom staff at Bordeaux. More recently, he was appointed as coach in Regis Le Bris’ backroom at Lorient. The former centre-back was initially appointed as a youth coach. When asked about why he decided to take the opportunity to coach in Brittany, he said: “My wife and I were wondering about the rest of our lives in Bordeaux, it was complicated to find any opportunities. Brittany was our number one choice to leave. I called Loic Férylle (the president of Lorient) and explained my project to him, and then the doors were open.”

The former French international was lucky to be managed by some top coaches during his playing career, he was asked if any coaches had an impact on his style. Koscielny replied: “Daniel Sanchez at Tours, Christian Gourcouff at Lorient, Arsène Wenger and Unai Emery at Arsenal, and Laurent Blanc and Didier Deschamps with France. They all influenced me. Even when it was more complicated, there were always discussions”.

The Lorient coach also added he had been in contact with Arséne Wenger recently, saying “I spoke with Arséne on the phone recently… I know when I meet Arsène (Wenger) about managing a club, he will share his experiences of all those years in London.”

Koscielny doesn’t yet have all of the coaching badges to take full charge of a men’s professional team. L’Équipe asked him about his plans to complete his badges to which he responded: “You have to give me some time. I’m not going to take the place of Régis Le Bris! I’ve only been in Brittany for three months and we will see my career evolve step by step”.

The former Reims man scored three goals in 31 matches for the newly-promoted side, who staved off relegation – notably thanks to the mid-season arrival of World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti.

L’Équipe indicate that the 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, and that Les Girondins will receive a transfer fee of less than €1m, with bonuses, as well as a 15% cut of the profit on a prospective future transfer.

Oudin’s spell at Bordeaux saw him score nine goals and register ten assists across 81 appearances, having arrived midway through the 2019/20 campaign from his formative club Reims. He was ultimately unable to replicate the promise he showed with the Champagne side, where he notably scored ten goals during the 2018/19 Ligue 1 campaign, but has enjoyed a revival over in Italy.

Ajaccio v Bordeaux suspended after fans clashed in stands https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2023/ajaccio-v-bordeaux-suspended-after-fans-clashed-in-stands/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2023/ajaccio-v-bordeaux-suspended-after-fans-clashed-in-stands/#respond Mon, 21 Aug 2023 20:47:25 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=128213 The final game of Ligue 2’s matchweek 3 between AC Ajaccio and Bordeaux was marred by fan-related incidents with both sets of supporters clashing in the stands this Monday. Referee Gaël Angoula had no choice but to suspend the game after only 13 minutes played. According to L’Equipe, 64 members of the Ultramarines – Bordeaux’s main supporters’ (ultras) group – made the trip to Ajaccio’s Stade François-Coty. This despite the fact that a prefectorial decree had prohibited Bordeaux fans from coming to Ajaccio on Monday. However, the decree was published only on Friday, leaving little to no time for the Bordeaux fans who had already purchased their ticket to cancel their trip to Corsica.

Security services managed to remove the visiting supporters from the stadium. The game eventually resumed after a near 40-minute suspension. Girondins de Bordeaux released a statement in which they expressed their clear condemnation of the non-compliance by a small group of supporters with the prefectoral decree. The Ligue 2 club also condemns the violent scenes of fan unrest which followed. “The club trusts the authorities to take the appropriate actions.Les Girondins have already been hit by a 1-point deduction for this league campaign after a member of the Ultramarines shoved a Rodez player to the ground during the previous campaign’s final game.

They have both signed four-year deals with the Ligue 1 side. Mwanga and Bakwa have the same agent as new Strasbourg manager Patrick Vieira – Sport Cover’s Meissa N’Diaye. The Alsace side’s room for financial manoeuvre has greatly increased following their takeover last June by American consortium BlueCo, which also owns Chelsea FC. Mwanga is a very promising centre-back who is expected to compete with Saidou Sow to partner with club-record signing Abakar Sylla. The 20-year-old can also fill in the defensive midfield role. “This is an important step in my career“, said the former Bordeaux defender. “Playing at the highest level has always been my dream.”

https://twitter.com/RCSA/status/1688812577990623232

Mwanga will be accompanied at La Meinau by his Bordeaux teammate Bakwa. The winger has logged five goals and eight assists in 36 Ligue 2 games this past season with Les Girondins. “I come with a lot of ambition but also a lot of humility and I will put myself at the service of the collective to help the club achieve its objectives ”. According to L’Equipe, Strasbourg have completed the double swoop of Mwanga and Bakwa for a combined €19m transfer fee. Strasbourg will kick off their Ligue 1 campaign at home against Lyon on Sunday.
