Golden Glove winner Emiliano Martinez adds Yashin Trophy to his cabinet

Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (31) has won the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the year. 

The prize was handed to Emiliano Martinez, by his father Alberto during Monday night’s ceremony in Paris. It has been an exceptional year for Martinez, who won the World Cup with Argentina back in December. He made a crucial save from Randal Kolo Muani in the dying stages, which took the game to penalties. As a result of his heroics throughout the tournament in Qatar, he won the Golden Glove, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the tournament. 

Maignan 9th, Samba 10th

Martinez also registered 13 clean sheets for Aston Villa last season, helping his team to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and a place in European competition this campaign. The Argentinian succeeds Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois. 

Manchester City’s Ederson finished second, ahead of Yassine Bounous. who finished ahead of Martinez in the Ballon d’Or ranking. Courtois finished fourth, Marc-André ter Stegen fifth, André Onana sixth, Dominik Livakovic seventh and Aaron Ramsdeal eighth. AC Milan goalkeeper and France #1 Mike Maignan finished ninth, ahead of compatriot Brice Samba, whose performances led RC Lens to the UEFA Champions League.
