Leonardo and Marco Verratti at risk of punishment after referee comments

As reported by L’Équipe, PSG sporting director Leonardo and club midfielder Marco Verratti are at risk of suspension by the French football authorities after their comments to the press over the standard of refereeing following PSG’s 3-1 loss at Nantes on Saturday night.

Although the usual Disciplinary Committee of the League can’t intervene in this case, the National Council of Ethics (CNE) of the French Football Federation could yet do so, say the sports daily.

Leonardo bemoaned major refereeing decisions that went against PSG, saying: “The referee says ‘No, it’s Mbappé, it’s Neymar, I won’t blow the whistle! It’s Messi, I won’t blow the whistle, it’s Paris Saint-Germain, I won’t blow the whistle!'”

Verratti, meanwhile, was even more direct, stating: “We were s**t on by the refereeing.”
