After QPR’s FA cup win against West Brom, the side’s manager Harry Redknapp confirmed that the signing of Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila was also close following the arrival of Remy. Four days later, however, the move seems slightly less concrete than Redknapp was suggesting
After the FA cup replay, Redknapp went on to talk about Rennes star Yann M’Vila. He said: “I also liked M’Vila when I was at Tottenham. They (Rennes) turned down £28million from an English club for him a year ago. Spurs offered £15million for him in August. The deal looks okay.”
He added: “M’Vila’s had a few off-the-field problems. If he behaves himself, and plays as we know he can, he’ll do well.”
M’Vila has a poor disciplinary record and is banned from representing his country until June 2014, after he broke a curfew to go to a nightclub, just before a key French under 21 game.
A few days later, however, it emerged that Russian club Rubin (Zenit rumoured to have done so as well) had made a bid for the player, which was higher than QPR’S and although M’Vila does not want to go to Russia, he entered into talks with them. Talks continued, until on the fifteenth, when Rennes’ president announced that the player would be playing his last game for the club against Bastia, in a game his side won 2-0, as the player would be leaving the club.
Our sources told us on the 21st that the player is now more likely to go to Russian club Rubin due to a higher transfer fee, as although the player is said to prefer a move elsewhere, Rennes are desperate to gain as much from M’Vila’s departure as possible. It is even rumoured by some that the player is close to agreeing terms of a three and a half year deal. Rubin are currently under a transfer embargo and so the player would leave when this was lifted. Rubin are due to meet Russian authorities this week in order to get the ban lifted and if it was, and terms were agreed, they would be able to sign the player this market.
Rubin are now are favourites, but we are not ruling anyone out. QPR are still in with a great chance to sign the player. Our sources have also reported some late interest from Tottenham after an injury to Sandro meant that Spurs are left short in the defensive midfield area. Everton have also been linked with the player, although it seems unlikely that they would have the funds to buy M’Vila.
Bein Sport have claimed that the Rennes president had told them that a decision will be made some time this week, but realistically, it could happen at any point.
After Rennes’ match against Bastia, Manager Antonetti told press: ‘Its always annoying when very good players go…. Hes not gone yet though. You act as if he has already gone.”
