Ross Barkley omitted from Nice’s Europa League squad

OGC Nice have omitted midfielder Ross Barkley (29) from their Europa Conference League squad ahead of the club’s knockout games.

Barkley was not in the squad for the group-stage games having joined on a free transfer after the closure of the summer transfer window. However, it was expected that the England international would be added to the squad at the end of the winter transfer window. That has not come to pass, and Barkley will take no part in Les Aiglons’ European campaign this season.

January signings Terem Moffi and Youssouf Ndayishimiye have unsurprisingly been added to the squad. Barkley was expected to be the third edition, but the place has instead gone to youngster Badredine Bouanani. His addition is likely due to an injury to Arsenal loanee Nicolas Pépé, who is uncertain to be fit for the Round of 16 tie on 9th March. Bouanani is a closer profile to the Ivorian international.

Nice will discover their Round of 16 opponent on 24th February, but whoever Les Aiglons face, Barkley won’t feature.
