Lyon right-back Saël Kumbedi extends contract to 2027

Lyon have this evening announced that young right-back Saël Kumbedi has put pen to paper on a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2027.

The 18-year-old was part of the French squad that won the U17 Euros last year, before making the move to the Ligue 1 side from Le Havre over the summer for a fee of  €1m. In the wake of Malo Gusto’s injury, Kumbedi has been a fixture in the right-back position in Laurent Blanc’s team. With the former leaving for Chelsea this summer, the latter is expected to step up into the starting role on a full-time basis.

The former Paris Saint-Germain youth product has made 14 appearances so far this season, registering two assists – including one for Bradley Barcola’s winner at the Parc des Princes a couple of weeks ago. Having previously been under contract until 2025, the team have now moved to lock down his future
