Yohan Cabaye: “I still have a lot of love for Newcastle.”

Former Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye spoke of his love for the former ahead of tonight’s UEFA Champions League tie between the pair. 

Cabaye has now retired, but he spent stints at both PSG and Newcastle. He featured 93 times for the Tyneside club, scoring 10 goals during his time at St James’ Park. He also featured 57 times for Les Parisiensm scoring 18 goals and registering 14 assists during his time with the club.

He will be in attendance for the return of UEFA Champions League football at St James’ Park, and in an interview with Le Parisienhe revealed that he still follows Newcastle attentively. Whilst he backs PSG to beat the Premier League side, “if they play at their level,” he said that he still has “a lot of love” for Newcastle. 

I still have a lot of love for Newcastle,” said the Frenchman, who spent three years at the club between 2011 and 2014 before moving to PSG. “I follow their results and I have a lot of respect for the people that work there. I am happy to see them back at the top. I’m attentively watching their new project. Newcastle are going in the right direction,” he continued. 

PSG currently top the Champions League group following victory over Borussia Dortmund, whilst Newcastle picked up one point against AC Milan at the San Siro.
