The meeting that took place between Paris Saint-Germain (represented by Antero Henrique) and Inter Milan (represented by Paolo Busardo) yesterday reportedly went well, even if an agreement still remains to be found. Nonetheless, both sides remain confident that the deal will get done.

The Nerazzurri had been asking for an €80m fee for their Slovakian centre-half, who has one year left on his contract. PSG have so far been unwilling to match that valuation, and the prospect of Škriniar remaining in Italy and extending his contract was emerging.

Nevertheless, Les Parisiens retain hope of bringing in the 27-year-old and convincing Inter to lower their asking price. The player himself is keen on the move.

The Slovakia international has been with the club for the last five years, making over 200 appearances and notably playing a part in the 2020/21 title win under Antonio Conte.

The young centre-back has featured a total of five times for the Canaries’ first team, but was mostly playing for Nantes’ reserves last season in the fourth division of French football.

Having not been a part of Antoine Kombouaré’s plans going into the 2022/23 season, in which the club will play European football following their Coupe de France victory in May, the 22-year-old was allowed to leave the club with a year still remaining on his contract.

Despite being called up for three friendlies last year, Sylla has been unsuccessful in maintaining his place in the Guinea national team, missing out on January’s Africa Cup of Nations. The international defender will be hopeful of more game time with Seraing, who are set to embark on their third consecutive top-flight season, following their two consecutive promotions in 2020 and 2021.

The teenager has subsequently joined Chaves, who play their football in the Portuguese top flight, having been promoted from Liga Portugal 2 last season, having finished third in the division.

Lesieur, who is also known as Rodrigues, has represented the Portuguese youth teams a total of twenty times already, most recently playing against Germany U19 last September. The 19-year-old, who was born in France, is likely to fill in as second-choice goalkeeper at Chaves.

In his time at Lens, the goalkeeper was unable to break into the senior squad and his three-year contract was ultimately terminated two years early. The news of his termination had been reported by Benjamin Quarez on Tuesday.

Luca Cattani to return to PSG as head of academy https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/luca-cattani-to-return-to-psg-as-head-of-academy/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/luca-cattani-to-return-to-psg-as-head-of-academy/#respond Thu, 28 Jul 2022 17:15:31 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92893 Having left his post as head of recruitment at Paris Saint-Germain in December 2021, Italian Luca Cattani is reported to return to the French capital to take on responsibility for the club’s academy, according to L’Équipe.

The former Chief Scout (2019-2021) has spent the last seven months working as Sporting Director for Spartak Moscow, who issued an official statement on July 13th, announcing his departure from the club. Having spent a year working as a scout at Chelsea (2017-18), the 40-year-old will return to PSG as part of the club’s restructure, which has equally targeted their system of youth development and integration, following a number of high profile departures.

Cattani is therefore set to replace Jean-François Pien, who has held the position of Head of Education since July 2016. Former Newcastle, PSG and Crystal Palace player Yohan Cabaye is also likely to vacate his role as Academy Manager, which he has held since last summer, however the details of the new structure remain to be seen.

FIFA is considering a postponement of the 2023 Women’s World Cup https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/fifa-is-considering-a-postponement-of-the-2023-womens-world-cup/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/fifa-is-considering-a-postponement-of-the-2023-womens-world-cup/#respond Thu, 28 Jul 2022 15:44:33 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92866 According to L’Équipe, FIFA has been in touch with a number of leading European footballing bodies to discuss the potential postponement of the Women’s World Cup which is due to take place next year in Australia and New Zealand, from July 20th to August 20th. This news comes just days before the final of the Women’s European Championships, which will see hosts England face Germany at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The proposition consists of a delay of several months, so that the tournament would take place, much like the men’s equivalent in Qatar, in the winter months. The reasoning behind this is that the tournament would then take place in the Southern Hemisphere’s summer months.

For now, the proposition remains just an idea and there is no formal movement to adjust the dates as yet. FIFA “did not wish to comment” on L’Équipe’s story.

Furthermore, within France, a change in dates could solve the current problem surrounding broadcasting rights. Having sold the rights in France to TF1 for the 2019 edition for a total of €20m, the international federation has so far received offers far below this mark for next year’s edition. Changing the dates could alter the interest from European broadcasters, who are already wary of the inconvenient kick-off times.

Selma Bacha: “There wasn’t a lot in it” https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/selma-bacha-there-wasnt-a-lot-in-it/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/selma-bacha-there-wasnt-a-lot-in-it/#respond Wed, 27 Jul 2022 21:24:18 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92812 Following France’s disappointing elimination from Euro 2022 by Germany in tonight’s semi-final, Lyon’s young winger Selma Bacha (21) spoke to the French broadcasters TF1, as well as RMC Sport to discuss the game. Les Bleues were suffocated by a strong German defence, who put a stop to the French attack, which had been both entertaining and dangerous throughout the tournament. Ultimately, it was Alexandra Popp’s clinical finishing that proved the difference between the sides, which Bacha highlighted in her post-match interview. The player’s words were transcribed by RMC Sport.

“There wasn’t a lot in it. The key is that we gave everything, we’ll get there one day. Failures are part of a career, we’ll come back stronger. We’ll get past it, there’s a lot of sadness, but we can congratulate ourselves. We gave everything, unfortunately it ended like this… We had the right mindset, we lacked a bit of efficiency, but this France team is united. We’re proud of ourselves. One day, this France team will shake up the whole world.”

“There’s disappointment… but we have to take the positive, we can’t throw everything in the bin. We have to keep working to be at the top for the next competitions. We lacked efficiency, we didn’t take our chances but we’re a young team, we’ll work hard.”

“We would have liked a different result, but we came across a solid opponent who we have to give credit to. We have no regrets, we gave everything. We have to keep working, what we did was good even if it wasn’t quite enough today. We still see what we lack compared to other nations. One day it’ll go our way. The players are disappointed, we’ll have to stick together.”

PLAYER RATINGS | France 1-2 Germany, Les Bleues crash out of the Euros https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/player-ratings-france-1-2-germany-les-bleues-crash-out-of-the-euros/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/player-ratings-france-1-2-germany-les-bleues-crash-out-of-the-euros/#respond Wed, 27 Jul 2022 20:52:06 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92806 France 1-2 Germany: Women’s European Championship, Semi-Finals – 27/7/22

On their first ever appearance in a Euros semi-final, Corinne Diacre’s women have fallen at the last hurdle, missing out on the opportunity to play England at Wembley on Sunday. In a very tightly-contested game, the two teams were separated only by Alexandra Popp’s clinical finishing, with France’s flamboyant attack suffocated by Germany’s well-organised defence. The talented French squad therefore extends its trophy drought, having never won a major title.

Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, 3 – A very shaky first half from France’s number 1, not unlike her performance against Iceland, where she made poor decisions in dealing with crosses and through balls. Redeemed herself with a good save from Popp’s first-half free kick and could do nothing about either of Germany’s goals.

Ève Périsset, 4 – Worked hard to slow down the German attack with some success but perhaps ought to have been goal-side of Popp to stop her giving Germany the lead.

Wendie Renard (c), 6 – Led from the back with a strong defensive performance, shrugging off German attackers and sweeping up through balls with ease.

Griedge Mbock, 4 – Decent performance in the face of a dangerous German attack, with nice vision playing balls forward to the wings, much as Renard has done throughout the tournament. Easily beaten in the air by Popp for her second goal.

Sakina Karchaoui, 3 – Disappointing performance from one of France’s best players in these finals. Failed to beat players carrying the ball forward as she has over the last weeks and frequently lost the ball in dangerous areas.

Sandie Toletti, 5

Charlotte Bilbaut, 5

Grace Geyoro, 6 – Intense performance from the first game’s hat-trick hero, leading the press and winning the ball on a number of occasions.

Kadidiatou Diani, 6 – Decent performance from the tricky winger, who tried to implement her positive footwork but couldn’t threaten quite as much as in previous games. But it was her positive thinking that put France back on level terms with a powerful strike just before half time.

Melvine Malard, 5

Delphine Cascarino, 6 – Much like her fellow winger, struggled to threaten quite as much as she’s used to but kept driving forward with the ball.

Others: Bacha 5, Matéo 5, Sarr 5

Cenk Özkaçar to leave Lyon without making a league appearance https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/cenk-ozkacar-to-leave-lyon-without-making-a-league-appearance/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/cenk-ozkacar-to-leave-lyon-without-making-a-league-appearance/#respond Wed, 27 Jul 2022 16:15:09 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92778 According to L’Équipe, Turkish defender Cenk Özkaçar (21) is set to leave Lyon in order to join newly promoted Serie A side Cremonese. The young centre-back, who made his international debut in this summer’s Nations League fixtures, joined OL in 2020 from Turkish club Altay SK for a fee of €1.5m.

However, since then, the young Turk has been on loan to Belgian side Leuven this season, where he featured heavily, missing just two league games. Despite his importance in the Belgian division, the defender was unable to make his mark at Lyon, where he only ever made a single appearance, coming in the Coupe de France against Monaco, when he came off the bench for the last ten minutes of a quarter-final.

Özkaçar’s departure would follow a flux of other defenders this summer, including Jason Denayer, whose contract with OL expired, Léo Dubois, who joined Galatasaray, and Emerson, who returned to Chelsea following the end of his loan.

Bordeaux president Gérard Lopez to request postponement of Ligue 2 fixture https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/bordeaux-president-gerard-lopez-to-request-postponement-of-ligue-2-fixture/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/bordeaux-president-gerard-lopez-to-request-postponement-of-ligue-2-fixture/#respond Wed, 27 Jul 2022 15:56:20 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=92775 Following the announcement that French giants Bordeaux will in fact be permitted to play in Ligue 2 this season, avoiding a second relegation on financial grounds, the club’s president Gérard Lopez spoke to France Info about the decision and the impact on the Girondins. He mentioned that the lateness of the decision, which came just days before the first scheduled fixture, against Valenciennes on Saturday, is problematic. He has therefore suggested postponing the game.

“We’re not sure [we’ll be able to play] since we know Valenciennes will have also been waiting to know the result. I think both clubs will ask for a postponement. We’ll see what the competition decides.”

Via their official Twitter account, however, Valenciennes have denied requesting a postponement, writing “VAFC had foreseen all possible eventualities in regards to the survival of the Girondins de Bordeaux, including going to play at the Matmut Atlantique stadium this Saturday at 7pm.”

As things stand, the game is still scheduled to go ahead at the pre-arranged date and time.
