Insulting tweet towards referee posted from Bordeaux president Gérard Lopez’s account

Tensions are high in Ligue 2 ahead of the final matchday on Friday, with the promotion spots still to be decided. Three points separate Le Havre, Metz and Bordeaux, with only two able to go up this season.

Bordeaux currently sit in third place – having dropped down from second after an away loss to Annecy last week – and remain in contention for a swift return to the top flight, after finishing bottom of Ligue 1 last year. Les Girondins will need to beat Rodez at home and hope one of their rivals can slip up.

To add to fuel to the potential fire, an incendiary tweet was sent from club president Gérard Lopez’s account last night, complaining of the choice of Nicolas Rainville as the official for the match.

“Up yours! But we’ll make do! [There will be] 42,000 people, he won’t dare f*** us over.”

Local outlet Sud Ouest indicate that the tweet, which has now been deleted, was sent after the account had been hacked, and they have contacted Twitter to review its security.
