Kylian Mbappé slammed by PSG teammates over his comments on the club’s “glass ceiling”

Kylian Mbappé (24) has sparked controversy within the PSG dressing room following his latest comments on the club, according to a report from RMC Sport. The 24-year-old gave an exclusive interview in this month’s France Football issue. The interview took place during last June’s international break, before Mbappé had sent PSG the letter indicating he wouldn’t trigger his one-year extension. In the interview, the free-scoring PSG frontman notably said his performances are unfairly criticised because it is supposedly much harder to impress while playing in Ligue 1, whilst branding PSG a “divisive” club that hit its glass ceiling in the Champions League.

Unsurprisingly, Mbappé’s comments have not gone down well at all in the club’s dressing room. According to RMC Sport, six players have forwarded their teammate’s interview to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The French media understands that two of those six players are new signings out of Milan Škriniar, Manuel Ugarte and Marco Asensio. One of the messages sent to Al-Khelaifi reportedly said: “It is an insult to the club.

The Qatari club chairman also labelled Mbappé’s interview as a lack of respect to everyone involved with PSG, be they new signings, newly-appointed head coach Luis Enrique and the whole fanbase. Al-Khelaifi has even come to ask himself the following question: if that’s what Mbappé thinks of PSG, why wouldn’t he leave as soon as possible?
