Official | Sergi Palencia leaves Saint-Étienne by mutual consent

Saint-Étienne have announced that Spanish full-back Sergi Palencia’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent, the 26-year-old leaving the Forez club after 18 matches.

Palencia had first joined Les Verts in 2019 from Barcelona, having been a regular for Bordeaux the previous season during his loan spell from the Catalans. He made nine appearances for Les Verts in his first season.

The Blaugrana youth graduate was then loaned out to Leganés the following season, a move which was renewed for a second yet the summer afterwards. He was a regular starter for both of the campaigns he played with the second-tier side, based in the suburbs of Madrid.

This year, with Saint-Étienne relegated to Ligue 2 after losing their play-off last season, Palencia has made nine league appearances, registering one assist. He leaves with the team lying second-to-last in the table, amid a busy transfer window as they gear up for a survival battle.
