Rennes’ Arnaud Kalimuendo out for several weeks, but Martin Terrier nearing return

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Lille OSC, Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio revealed that Arnaud Kalimuendo (21) faces a spell on the sidelines, however, Martin Terrier (26) is nearing a return.

It was mixed news on the injury front at Genesio’s pre-match press conference. Kalimuendo suffered a hamstring injury whilst on France U21 duty. The full extent of the injury is yet to be ascertained, but more will be known in the coming days. Genesio could, however, reveal that the injury is not as bad as first feared and an absence of a “few weeks” is expected.

There was more positive news regarding Terrier. The Frenchman suffered an ACL injury against OGC Nice on 2nd January. He subsequently underwent an operation and has not played since. After eight months of absence, Terrier has returned to first-team training, Genesio revealed. He won’t be in the group to face Lille and Genesio was coy to give an exact return date. “I’d prefer not to give a date, neither for him nor for you, because it’s a big injury that he’s returning from, that also included complications after the surgery. It’s good therefore, that he is where he is,” said the Rennes manager in a press conference transcribed by L’Équipe. Genesio added that Terrier has been training with the group for the past four to five days, almost normally, and said that he “hasn’t lost anything.”
