Rennes pull out of race to sign Tottenham’s Davinson Sánchez

According to Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais have pulled out of the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sánchez (27).

L’Équipe broke the news this morning that the Bretons had submitted a last-gasp €12m bid to their Premier League counterparts to sign the Colombian international. The former AFC Ajax is entering his final year of contract with Spurs. The outlet added that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may part ways with Sánchez after a round of constructive talks with Rennes. The player himself was reportedly keen on the move.

Now Foot Mercato understands that Levy would not budge on his €15m valuation of the 27-year-old centre-back, effectively leading Rennes as well as Monaco to pull out of the deal. The two Ligue 1 sides reportedly deemed the price tag as “prohibitive“. Should Rennes fail to land Sánchez, they are expected to retain Belgium international Arthur Theate, who is the subject of interest from Serie A side Fiorentina, as well as Fulham and Liverpool.
