Matthieu Bodmer and Loïc Désiré in contention to become Lyon’s new Sporting Director

Foot Mercato are reporting that Le Havre AC Sporting Director Matthieu Bodmer, Loïc Désiré and former Barcelona Sporting Director Eric Abidal are all in contention to become the new Sporting Director at Olympique Lyonnais.

It is looking increasingly likely that Bruno Cheyrou will not retain his job as Sporting Director at Lyon. Since the arrival of new owner John Textor earlier this season, there have been considerable changes in the hierarchical setup at the club, which has notably seen Jean-Michel Aulas ousted as the club’s President.

Les Gones are therefore in the market for a new Sporting Director. Whilst Abidal would be keen on taking the role, Lyon are not so keen on repatriating a former Lyonnais. He is therefore currently not amongst the frontrunners to take the role, which may soon become vacant.

Two names are currently being considered more thoroughly. The first is Bodmer, who looks set to lead Le Havre from Ligue 2 into Ligue 1. The former Lyon player is a serious candidate for the role, and his departure from Le Havre can’t be ruled out, especially given a reported lack of investment in the case of promotion, which in the eyes of many, represents a lack of ambition. The second name is Désiré, the current Recruitment Director at Strasbourg.

There is also the possibility of Juninho returning to the club, just months after leaving the role, but that move also looks unlikely. Foot Mercato have also revealed that a foreign Sporting Director is being considered, although no name has yet been revealed.
