Le Havre sign Cheick Doumbia (Lorient)

L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 newly promoted side Le Havre have struck a deal with Brittany outfit FC Lorient to sign 18-year-old left-back Cheick Doumbia.

Doumbia is one of a number of 18 to 22-year-olds identified by HAC as overlooked young players with major potential that the recruitment cell has discovered that they believe can progress under Le Havre’s orders as well as contribute to Vincent Volpe’s team’s attempts to stave off relegation in their first season back in the French top flight for the first time since over 10 years.

Lorient have accepted to allow the player to leave on a free transfer to HAC, but in exchange will retain a considerable sell-on percentage fee clause, meaning that Les Merlus will take a portion of any future transfer fee in the event that Le Havre sell the player.

Doumbia has made no senior appearances for FCL, featuring only for the U17s and reserves during his time with the Loïc Féry-Bill Foley owned club.
